Registration Requirements

 

On this page you can find out what qualifications are necessary for voter registration, where you can obtain the form, and other important information you should know as a voter. 

 

Who: 

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Legal resident of Okaloosa County, Florida
  • At least 18 years of age to vote; may pre-register at 17 or when applying for a driver's license after turning 16 
  • No felony convictions or adjudication of mental incompetence unless civil rights have been restored

 

What: 

  • Register early, before books close (29 days before any election)
  • Watch for election information - municipal elections every year and state-wide primary and general elections in even-numbered years
  • Single permanent registration for all elections in your district as long as you keep your address current with the elections office
  • "One man, one vote" depends on your residence address to protect the integrity of the electoral system in a representative form of government

Beginning January 1, 2006, voter registration will be state wide. Moving between counties in Florida will be considered an address change, not subject to the 29-day book-closing which applies to first time Florida registrants.
